Karen Gillan Gets Ready To Stare Down Oculus

Karen Gillan is perhaps most known for her work on the beloved BBC series Dr. Who, but horror fans may remember her from the stylish almost-werewolf flick Outcast last year. She’s gearing up for another bout with the supernatural – and this time it’s personal!
According to Variety, Gillan will star in the horror flick Oculus for Intrepid Pictures and director Mike Flanagan (Absentia). The story follows a woman whose life was ruined after her parents were murdered. Her brother was convicted of the crime despite her belief that the real culprit was a supernatural entity. After a decade, she becomes obsessed with finding the truth behind the killing.
No word on a release date as of yet, but we do know that FilmDistrict is handling domestic distribution while Focus Features International will handle foreign sales. Production begins this fall.
Stay tuned, and rest assured we’ll be covering this one closely. Flanagan’s Absentia is a quality piece of genre filmmaking, and it’ll be interesting to see what he can do with this premise.
