STRANGER THINGS 4 Producer Says Pandemic May Result in Best Season Yet
Last month, Netflix resumed filming Stranger Things 4 after the COVID shut things down for a bit. And today, producer Shawn Levy says the pandemic impacted the new season positively, allowing the Duffer brothers to write the entire season before shooting, and produce exceptional quality scripts – maybe the best ever.
Levy tells Collider: “I’ll just say the pandemic definitely massively delayed shooting and therefore the launch of our current Season 4. But it impacted very positively by allowing the Duffer brothers, for the first time ever, to write the entire season before we shoot it and to have time to rewrite in a way that they rarely had before so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, maybe better than ever.”
Season 4 sees the return of series mainstays such as David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and Winona Ryder.
Created by the Duffer Brothers, the series is inspired primarily by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, and Stephen King and set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. The first season focused on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy amid supernatural events occurring around the town, including the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities.
The Duffer Brothers developed the series as a mix of investigative drama and supernatural horror, infusing it with references to the pop culture of that decade.
The third season was set in the days leading up to the Fourth of July in 1985 when a secret Soviet laboratory under the new Starcourt Mall seeks to open the gateway to the Upside Down, unleashing all-new evil entities into Hawkins.
