Nicole Kidman Deeply Committed to Robert Eggers’ Viking Revenge Epic THE NORTHMAN
The Witch and The Lighthouse director Robert Eggers’ Viking revenge epic The Northman is shooting with a cast including Nicole Kidman (The Others). And today, Kidman talked about the movie and being deeply committed to Eggers’ vision.
Kidman tells Collider: “I’m heading off to do that in November. I’m deeply committed to filmmakers that I call auteurs. They’re so powerful in their visions and their abilities. I made that pledge when I was about 14 years old, that I would travel the world and work with different nationalities in different countries and different genres with different stories. That’s my calling. So, to have been asked to do it is a privilege. A lot of the things, as an actor, you’ve gotta be asked to do them. [The Northman] is Robert Eggers’ story and his vision. I hopefully bring something to the equation but I’m there to participate and contribute.”
Kidman’s co-stars include Alexander Skarsgård (The Stand), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Ethan Hawke (The Purge), and Björk.
While plot details are scarce, we do know that it takes place in the 10th century and centers on a Nordic prince who seeks revenge after his father is murdered. Co-written with Icelandic poet/novelist Sjón, The Northman does not have an official release date but filming recently started near the eastern coast of Ireland.
