This Day in Horror History: ROGUE Was Released in 2007
In between the first and second Wolf Creek films, writer/director Greg McLean and John Jarratt (the actor who plays evil/ruthless Mick Taylor) collaborated on a tasty, based-on-real-events “Ozsplotation”/Outback shocker Rogue, released on this day in 2007.
If it’s been a while, or if you’ve yet to experience the eco-terror of Rogue, give the trailer and synopsis and spin below.
Synopsis:
Rugged American adventure-travel journalist Pete McKell (Michael Vartan) joins a cruise along a crocodile-infested river organized by tomboyish guide Kate Ryan (Radha Mitchell). As if dealing with their fellow travelers — including obnoxious wannabe photographer Simon (Stephen Curry) and bratty British teen Sherry (Mia Wasikowska) — wasn’t enough aggravation, soon Pete and Kate must match wits against an enormous 25-foot croc that seems cleverer than most.
Trivia:
The film was inspired by the true story of Sweetheart-a giant 5.1 Metre (16 ft.) saltwater crocodile responsible for a series of attacks between 1974- 1979, Sweetheart attacked outboard motors, dinghies, and fishing boats but never killed anyone- in July 1979 Sweetheart was finally caught alive by a team from the Territory Parks and Wildlife Commission, but drowned while being transported when he became tangled with a log, his mounted body is on permanent display at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. 2007 was a big year for killer croc movies! Rogue is one of two Australian crocodile movies made and released that year; the other picture was Black Water. Primeval is another crocodile movie released in 2007. (Source)
