Johnny 5 is Alive! SHORT CIRCUIT Remake Announced
Spyglass Media Group is currently working on Radio Silence’s Scream 5. And today we hear they will also produce a remake of the ’80s sci-fi kid classic Short Circuit.
Eduardo Cisneros (Instructions Not Included) and Jason Shuman (Half Brothers) twill pen the screenplay with “a Latinx twist.” James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak will produce with John W. Hyde back as executive producer alongside Terissa Kelton. Peter Oillataguerre and Chris Stone oversee for Spyglass.
Sounds good to me!
The original began when one of an experimental range of military robots is hit by lightning, giving it consciousness. It escapes from the military and befriends a young woman. Its creator is desperate to find it, or his project may be scrapped.
Directed by John Badham, it starred Steve Guttenberg, and Fisher Stevens and sports a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics Consensus: Amiable and good-natured but also shallow and predictable, Short Circuit is hardly as deep or emotionally resonant as E.T. — though Johnny Five makes for a charming robot protagonist.
