THE RECKONING: Shudder Snags Neil Marshall’s New Horror Movie
Shudder and RLJ Entertainment have snagged the rights to director Neil Marshall’s The Reckoning. RLJ will release the new witch hunt horror movie first. Shudder will then be its exclusive streaming platform sometime next year.
Financed by Arcana Studio and BondIt Media Capital, the horror movie stars Charlotte Kirk and takes place during witch hunts in 17th century England.
Arcana CEO Sean O’Reilly said: “We’ve found an exceptional partner in BondIt — The Reckoning being our fourth venture together. With the recent productions of Social Animals, Apex, and American Siege, Arcana has now expanded into film financing, and this is a new model that we are thrilled to be incorporating...”
The flick takes place during England’s Great Plague and subsequent witch hunts. Kirk plays a widow accused of being a witch after her husband commits suicide.
The Reckoning opened at Fantasia’s (virtual) film festival this summer. Highland Film Group is selling the movie worldwide at the American Film Market.
For those of you that might not know, Marshall is one of our favorite filmmakers here at Dread. He helmed such neo-classics as Dog Soldiers and The Descent. Not to mention Doomsday, Centurion, Tales of Halloween, and Hellboy (2019).
And let’s not forget shows such as Game of Thrones, Black Sails, Constantine, Hannibal, Westworld, and Netflix’s recent reboot of the sci-fi classic Lost in Space.
All of this is to say that anytime Marshall makes a flick, we take notice. And you should too. Especially considering this film has a The Descent meets The Witch vibe to it that you just can’t beat. Let’s hope it stands up to our expectations.
