PREDATOR: New Movie Snags Director Dan Trachtenberg
Nice! Disney is letting Predator back into the spotlight. Yes, we just got word that 20th Century Studios’ Predator 5 is coming soon. Oh, and Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Boys, Black Mirror) will helm the fifth installment.
The powers that be are keeping details about the new film’s plot under wraps. But we do know that it will follow the events of Shane Black’s The Predator. Patrick Aison (Kingdom, Jack Ryan, Treadstone) will pen the screenplay.
Written by Black and Fred Dekker, The Predator starred Boyd Holbrook and Trevante Rhodes. Jacob Tremblay co-starred with Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen, and Sterling K. Brown.
Rated R for strong bloody violence, language throughout, and crude sexual references, the film sports a 33% over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: The Predator has violence and quips to spare, but its chaotically hollow action adds up to another missed opportunity for a franchise increasingly defined by disappointment.
Meanwhile, the original film followed Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a soldier of fortune, who is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain (Jesse Ventura) and CIA agent George (Carl Weathers), land in Central America, something is gravely wrong. After finding a string of dead bodies, the crew discovers they are being hunted by a brutal creature with superhuman strength and the ability to disappear into its surroundings.
