FREAKY: Blumhouse’s Body-Swap Bloodbath #1 at Box-Office Again
Blumhouse’s body-swap bloodbath Freaky with Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton snagged the number one spot at the box office again this weekend with $1.2M.
Freaky has taken in $5.6M in its first 10 days. To provide a little context here, last year on this weekend, Disney launched Frozen II to the tune of $130M.
Box Office Pro’s Shawn Robbins says: “With the continuing surge of the virus this fall, another round of lockdowns and curfews are impacting theaters on a regional basis. Business is down sharply from last weekend as a result of temporary closures, even for films that had proven to hold quite well over the past few months. While the encouraging news of vaccines on the horizon remains a light at the end of the tunnel for the industry, this weekend’s dip at the box office is an expected reminder of the endurance that will be required to push through a very challenging holiday and winter season.”

Freaky is written and directed by Christopher Landon and produced by Jason Blum.
Described as a twisted take on the body-swap genre, it centers on high school student Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton) who becomes the newest target of the Butcher (Vince Vaughn), an infamous serial killer, during her senior year. When the killer’s magic dagger causes her to swap bodies with him, she discovers she has only a day to reverse the switch or remain trapped as a middle-aged murderer hunted by the city, while the real killer targets her classmates at Homecoming.
Freaky has a B- Cinemascore and sports an 84% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: An entertaining slasher with a gender-bending, body-swapping twist, this horror-comedy juggles genres with Freaky fun results.
Rated R for “strong bloody horror violence, sexual content, and language” it co-stars Celeste O’Connor, Misha Osherovich, and Alan Ruck. It’s now playing.
