Nubile young bodies at first frolicking in the woods and then systematically dispatched by an edged weapon wielded by a masked lunatic. Ah, slasher flicks – we love them! And here’s the first word on yet another addition to that canon!
Read on for the first news regarding writer and director Joston Theney’s upcoming The Axeman at Cutter’s Creek.
Chatting this morning with Arielle Brachfeld (The Haunting of Whaley House, Chemical Peel), the actress gave us the lowdown on the feature, which is currently in pre-production and slated to commence principal photography this September on location just outside of Big Bear, California. Author Dr. Christopher Otiko and filmmaker Theney (Bleed 4 Me, “UnCut”) are producing, with special FX being handled by Suzi Hale (Axegrinder, The Box, and Dose of Reality). Elissa Dowling, Tiffany Shepis, Brinke Stevens, Erin Marie Hogan and Chantelle Albers round out the cast, with Scot Pollard portraying the titular ‘The Axeman.’
“There’s a reason why there are so many slasher films,” Brachfeld, who portrays the character of ‘Darlene’ in The Axeman at Cutter Creek, told us. “They’re fun, they’re cathartic, and at least for me, when they’re good, they touch upon the nostalgia of horror films that I grew up with. Honestly, as much as I love a good script and great characters, often enough I really want to work on a project because of the people involved. When I met Joston and Matthew (Gross, casting director), I knew I wanted to be involved in the movie. They get it. It’s fun, gory madness.”
As for her character, “She’s unlike any I’ve played before,” said Brachfeld. “She says what’s on her mind, and she doesn’t give a damn about what anyone thinks. She is strong, funny, and kicks some major ass. Don’t get me wrong; I love playing vulnerable, emotionally extreme characters, but Darlene’s strength and humor is an undeniable treat!”
The Axeman at Cutter Creek’s official synopsis is simple: Nine vacationing twenty-somethings are hunted by an axe-wielding local legend, and the project is carrying the marketing tag of “Get ready for a vacation to be dismembered!”
