Jessica Rothe Wants HAPPY DEATH DAY And FREAKY Crossover
Blumhouse and Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day is fun as hell. I haven’t seen their spiritual follow-up Freaky yet, but I hear it’s great. And today, Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe reveals she’d love to see the two franchises crossover.
Rothe tells CinemaBlend: “That would be so insane and so much fun. I’m down. I think one of the things I love so much about the Happy Death Day movies and what was infused into Freaky, even though it was in such a new and inventive way is those worlds are so fun and filled with humor and heart. Both of those movies have so much heart even though they are funny, dark and so twisted and that’s the reason I think they could overlap. And there is that little bit of unexplained magic, sci-fi twistiness, so I can totally see how maybe [they] figure shit out together.”
She adds: “I love [Freaky] so much and I also just love Chris Landon, and I love his brain. And I feel so honored that both Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn are my fellow scream queens. Like the fact that Vince Vaughn is a scream queen is one of my favorite things in the world. I think they were absolutely astounding in the film. It’s so much fun, they really blew me away.”

Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon claims there’s a “real shot” the trilogy could be completed with Happy Death Day 3 being developed directly for Universal’s new streaming service Peacock.
Landon shared with ET: “I think that everybody wants it, but I think it’s just a logistical challenge right now. And there’s been talk that maybe they would try and make it for their new streaming service, for Peacock, so I think there’s a real shot that it could eventually happen. And the great thing about the idea is that, and this is a spoiler, it’s not set in the same day that the other two films were set in so it allows us to sort of take our time a little bit and figure it out.”
He continued: “I need a truckload of cash, if you could just find that for me, I’ll send you my address, you can just drop it off. I get this question a lot and I know that there’s a huge fan base and there are a lot of people who want to see the conclusion, as I would say, to the trilogy. I think it really comes down to Universal deciding whether they want it or not, only time will tell. We’re ready to make it. Like, I have an outline, I’m ready to go write the script, [star] Jessica Rothe, the whole cast, everybody’s on board. They all know what the idea is, they love it, so we’ll see.”
