MALIGNANT: James Wan’s New Nightmare Scores Scary New Logo

James Wan produces tons of horror movies. But it’s not often he’s the, you know, actual director. But that changes with his new nightmare MalignantThe film was set to hit earlier this year. But then – COVID. But today we hear it will hit HBO Max sometime next year. So that’s cool! Plus we got a brand-new logo.

Check it out below.

Malignant stars Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle), Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), George Young (Containment), Jake Abel (Supernatural), Maddie Hasson (God Bless America), Michole Briana White (Encino Man), Jacqueline McKenzie (Netflix’s Pine Gap), and Ingrid Bisu (The Nun).

Plot details are under wraps but Wan’s super excited to go back to his indie roots with this hard-R thriller. Malignant is an original horror idea (not a reboot/remake or based on existing IP) with old school, practical effects, and no giant, blue screens.

Malignant is written by Akela Cooper (Hell Fest) and JT Petty (Hellbenders, The Burrowers) from a story by Wan and Bisu, who married last year. Wan also produces with Michael Clear. The film is being independently financed through Starlight Media and Midas Innovation, who will retain distribution rights in China.

Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle) makes Malignant sound like it will be worth the wait.

Wallis tells THR: “Oh, yes! Oh my god. I mean, I think we have something very special... it’s genre-bending. I think it’s so brave. It’s so original. I just haven’t read anything like it. And you know, again, I’m at a place in my life and my career where it’s time to be brave. It’s time to push. And I think it’s really going to be something that audiences are pretty wowed by because it’s a real passion project for him. So, I’m very excited. Yeah, let’s see! That’s what good art and good cinema is. You kind of throw it out there, and then you don’t know how people are going to react.”

Malignant hits HBO Max sometime next year.
