Bring on the trailer!

Todd Garner, one of the producers of the upcoming live-action reboot took to Twitter to (finally) give us some new info on when we can expect the first trailer.

He writes: “Well, I thought by the casts’ social media you would’ve figured out we’re shooting a few more days. We’d always planned for it & thought we’d do it in March. The pandemic had other plans. We won’t have a release date for the movie until theaters re-open. Same for trailer.”

The reboot finds a male protagonist drawn into the interdimensional tournament.

McQuoid directs from a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham. The reboot is based on the game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. Ludi Lin stars with Joe Taslim, and Tadanobu Asano. Jessica McNamee (The Meg) also stars with Mehcad Brooks, Josh Lawson, Chin Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

James Wan and Todd Garner are producing. Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins are also serving as executive producers.

The 1995 adaptation centered on Lord Rayden. He mentors three martial artists — Sonya Blade, Lui Kang, and Johnny Cage. After training, Rayden transports the trio to Outworld. The site of an inter-dimensional fighting tournament. There, the three humans must also defeat the demonic warriors of the evil Shang Sung.

Mortal Kombat hits theaters and HBO Max on January 15, 2021.
