Exclusive: Cast & Crew Reflect on Intense SPACE Journey
You guys loved the trailer for Space (an intense sci-fi/horror flick directed by Monte Light and released by Random Media) when we shared it over the summer, so we thought we’d catch up with members of the cast and crew to see how the film is fairing.
Read their insightful comments below the trailer and synopsis.
Synopsis:
Written and directed by Monte Light, Space is set in the year 2050, when the BrightSTAR corporation launches the spaceship Udo. Its mission: the terraformation of the dwarf planet Ceres, using experimental nanite technology. The Udo is equipped with microphones and multiple cameras, to document the psychological effects of deep space on the crew of five. Dr. Ada Gray is the specialist in the compliment, an expert in astrobiology and the creator of the nanite technology. Her fellow shipmates include Commander Phil King, Tom ‘Tomcatʼ McMahon, the sarcastic Payload Specialist Mitch ‘The Bitchʼ Poe, and the handsome French pilot Evan Durand. Ada and Evan are intensely attracted to each other, but Evan is married. This makes the years in deep space quite the emotional pressure cooker for the two of them. When an accident leaves the crew stranded in separate escape pods, with only video communication to link them, tensions will overflow. What’s worse, a horrific technological monster of their own creation threatens the crew’s lives.
“Space was a very fun journey for me as an actor. The technical jargon and my character’s “bad Mandarin” were a challenge, but with Monte and his team backing the actors up, I never felt like I was going in a wrong direction. I’m so very proud of this film, and my performance within. And thrilled that folks now have an even easier way to see it. Despite the fact that I was directly involved, I can objectively say (from the lens of my bygone film critic days) that it’s a heartfelt and solid sci-fi offering.” Michael Klug, Actor “Commander Phil King”
“Working on Space was an amazing journey. From the set design at Fonco studios to shooting over 8 to 12-page scenes all in one take, was an incredible experience. I couldn’t be prouder of what Monte Light put together and am so happy that Space is getting the recognition it deserves. We became a family on set and to see companies like UNIDENTIFIED TV want to show off what we accomplished is such a blessing! Thank you to everyone for all the love and support for this film!! Happy New Year!” Lara Jean Sullivan, Actor “Dr. Ada Gray”
“Early on, the creative team behind Space recognized that the financial limitations of indie filmmaking can either bind or inspire you. We chose inspiration. Utilizing every resource and tapping every ounce of creative energy, we bonded together to craft a journey to the stars, full of suspense, terror, and emotion. It’s exciting that what started as such a deeply personal labor of love now has distribution on a widely public showcase.” Neal Tyler, Producer and Director of Photography
“Space was a real trial by fire, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Everyone left everything on the field, which is why you can feel the passion put into every frame. Great cast, the stars aligned, and I’m excited for more people to discover it now.” Monte Light, Writer/Director
