SMALL SOLDIERS Will Be Unleashed On Blu-ray Early Next Year
Paramount will release Gremlins and The Burbs director Joe Dante’s Small Soldiers on Blu-ray on February 2nd. Check out the cover art and special features below.

Small Soldiers begins when a teenager buys a set of action figures, unaware they’ve been programmed with military technology. The toys spring to life and start taking their directives seriously. They beginning by “killing” their enemies, the toy Gorgonites. But Archer and the Gorgonites won’t go down without a fight.
Dante says: “Originally I was told to make an edgy picture for teenagers, but when the sponsor tie-ins came in the new mandate was to soften it up as a kiddie movie. Too late, as it turned out, and there are elements of both approaches in there. Just before release [Small Soldiers] was purged of a lot of action and explosions.”

Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black) leads the Small Soldiers voice cast which also includes Frank Langella, Jim Brown, Ernest Borgnine, Bruce Dern, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Christina Ricci.
The cast also includes Dante mainstays such Dick Miller (Gremlins), Robert Picardo (The Howling), and Belinda Balaski (Piranha). Gavin Scott, Adam Rifkin, and Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) penned the script.
The live-action cast includes Gregory Smith, Kirsten Dunst, Kevin Dunn, Phil Hartman, Jay Mohr, David Cross, and Denis Leary. Small Soldiers marks the last on-screen role of Hartman, who died two months before the film’s premiere.
Small Soldiers sports a 48% over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: Small Soldiers has plenty of visual razzle-dazzle, but the rote story proves disappointingly deficient in director Joe Dante’s trademark anarchic spirit.
