On top of directing The Boy (no, the other one), Macneill also helmed Lizzie which starred Chloe Sevigny as Lizzie Borden. He also took on TV shows such as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Castle Rock, and Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone reboot.
Executive produced by James Wan (The Conjuring) and written by Sara Goodman (Preacher) based on Lois Duncan’s novel. It will be a modern take on the 1997 film and sport the same premise. Wan will serve as executive producer on the new slasher series with Goodman, Shay Hatten, Neil Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Rob Hackett, Michael Clear, and Erik Feig.
The original film follows four friends a year after running over a fisherman and dumping his body in the water. Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) receives a frightening letter telling her that their crime was seen. Barry (Ryan Phillippe) is run over by a man with a meat hook. The bloodletting only increases from there. The killer with the hook stalks Julie, Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.).
The film sports a 43% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: A by-the-numbers slasher that arrived a decade too late, the mostly tedious I Know What You Did Last Summer will likely only hook diehard fans of the genre.
