Rotten Tomatoes Reveals Score for New Stephen King’s THE STAND

CBS All Access’s and The New Mutants director Josh Boone’s adaptation of Stephen King’s magnum opus The Stand will finally arrive this Thursday.

And as of today the new miniseries sports a fresh 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sounds good to me!

Showrunner Benjamin Cavell recently confirmed the new series is based on the extended version of the book: “We had to make some decision to include, or not include, some things in the extended version[King] wrote a coda that is our ninth episode. It will be completely new to the entire audience. I can, and will say, the big reason he wanted to do the coda was, he was thinking about for [the last] 30 years that Frannie doesn’t go on ‘the stand’ in the book. She’s seven or eight months pregnant, and can’t walk across the mountains to face the Dark Man. It always ate at him that she was one of the heroes of the book, and she was never given her ‘stand.’ The coda is his planned attempt for the last 30-years to give her her ‘stand.’

He continues: “King read every draft and signed off on every draft. To have him vetting every script by reading it and he had an open line of communication with Owen and me…vetting all the changes we made to characters in real-time.”

The Stand is an apocalyptic vision of the struggle between good and evil of a world decimated by plague. The fate of mankind rests on the shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied by a nefarious man with unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg.

This version stars James Marsden as Stu Redman, Greg Kinnear as Glen Bateman, and Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith. Henry Zaga joins them as Nick Andros and Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail. Jovan Adepo plays Larry Underwood, with Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, Brad William Henke as Tom Cullen. Nat Wolff is Lloyd Henreid, with Heather Graham as Rita Blakemoor, and Daniel Sunjata as Cobb. Eion Bailey plays Teddy Weizak, with Katherine McNamara as Julie Lawry, and Luca Batista as Young Nick. Alexander Skarsgård is Randall Flagg.

The Stand hits CBS All Access THIS THURSDAY.
