STAR WARS Horror Comic SHADOW OF VADER’S CASTLE Available Now

Our readers will be pleased to know that a spooky new Star Wars comic called Shadow of Vader’s Castle is now available, and it looks like it could be one of the creepiest stories set within the galaxy far, far away. If you’re experiencing Star Wars-related withdrawal symptoms after the end of the third season of The Mandalorian, you can ease the pain by purchasing your copy of Shadow of Vader’s Castle from Amazon or from publisher IDW’s official website.

A spin-off from the horror-themed Tales from Vader’s Castle comic (which forms part of IDW’s young readers’ Star Wars Adventures series), Shadow of Vader’s Castle takes place immediately after the events of Return of the Jedi. The plot focuses on two young Mustafarian boys named Giggek and Tuttel, who embark on a quest to destroy the titular deceased Sith Lord’s fortress on their lava-filled homeworld. But things do not go according to plan, and the two boys quickly discover that Lord Vader’s castle is filled with unimaginable horrors and things which go bump in the night. On the other hand, the story also includes flashbacks to key moments throughout Darth Vader’s life, and showcases some of the appalling acts he committed in the name of the Empire. The one-shot comic was drawn by an assortment of artists, including Derek Charm, Nicoletta Baldari, Nick Brokenshire, and Francesco Francavilla, and they all clearly did a great job of capturing the more frightening aspects of the universe we all know and love.

Shadow of Vader’s Castle was announced on the official Star Wars website as part of the annual Star Wars Halloween celebration. The site also published a detailed interview with writer Cavan Scott, where he discussed the comic’s horror influences and how he loves combining Star Wars with the horror genre. It was mentioned throughout the interview that Scott has even been nicknamed the ‘Resident scary storyteller’ by the Star Wars community, because of his fondness for telling horror stories within the immensely popular sci-fi universe. However, Scott also noted that he was careful not to make Shadow of Vader’s Castle too scary, so that it can still be enjoyed by younger readers. So if you have kids who love Star Wars, this will be a perfect Christmas gift for them.
