Blumhouse Nabs New Thriller About Mom vs Cartel Kidnappers
Blumhouse has snagged the screen rights to a killer recent New York Times story, She Stalked Her Daughter’s Killers Across Mexico, One by One. Blumhouse won the rights over 16 other production companies and studios after the article sparked a bidding war immediately after it hit on December 15.
Azam Ahmed’s article tells the tale of a mother’s revenge spree in Mexico to avenged her daughter’s murder. A revenge spree where she took on drug cartels and tracked down the perpetrators herself. She ten of them apprehended by police. Someone then murdered her in front of her home on Mother’s Day, 2017.

More specifically (per Deadline), Ahmed’s article tells the story of 56-year-old Miriam Rodriguez whose whole world came crashing down on her when she lost her daughter, despite paying multiple ransom demands after the 20-year-old was kidnapped in 2014. Getting no help from law enforcement, Rodriguez took things into her own hands. Using disguises and different identities, she went after the alleged kidnappers. It was not exactly the female version of Man on Fire, but she used a gun to hold the culprits until she could get them handcuffed and arrested.
Jason Blum will produce alongside Ahmed and Caitlin Roper. I nominate the Everly team of director Joe Lynch and star Salma Hayek to take it on! What do you think?
