Ernie Hudson 100% Up For New CONGO Movie

Arachnophobia director Frank Marshall’s take on Michael Crichton’s Congo is a classic in my family. And my sister will be excited to hear Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson would still love to return to the jungle for more action and adventure.

Hudson tells ComicBook.com: “Well, the character in Congo, I just had a lot of fun with the character, and, unfortunately, the studio … I don’t know. It did well at the box office, but I’d love to do that character [again]. It probably won’t happen, but I’d love to recreate that character or revisit that character, revisit that scenario, once again, in a different part of the world, but more of an adventure. I’d like to do an adventure film, so that character I’d love to see again. But, yeah, probably Congo would be the one that I’d love to do, certainly not just substitute. There are a few that I don’t think I’d want to revisit, but Congo, I think I would.”

He adds: “I do these Cameo things… and, really, during this quarantine, it connected me to the audience, and surprisingly, a lot of people will ask you, ‘Can you do it as Monroe Kelly?’ A lot of different movies come up, but Congo is one that people will say is their favorite movie. It’s certainly in the minds of people, so that’s good.”

Hudson’s Congo co-stars include Laura Linney and Tim Curry. The film itself followed a scientist sent to the Congo to determine the whereabouts of a missing diamond-hunting team. Led by an expert guide, the search party, including a primatologist, a treasure hunter, and a “talking” gorilla, discover a danger far more sinister than anything they expected deep in the heart of the jungle.

It sports a 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: Mired in campy visual effects and charmless characters, Congo is a suspenseless adventure that betrays little curiosity about the scientific concepts it purports to care about.
