Alex Garland’s New Movie MEN Snags Jessie Buckley

Ex Machina, Annihilation writer-director Alex Garland and A24 are reteaming for a new science-fiction movie called Men. And today we hear Jessie Buckley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things) and Rory Kinnear are in negotiations to star in the film.

Plot details are under wraps, but Deadline reports the film is in the vein of Garland’s previous sci-fi films. So I guess it makes sense that Garland also penned the script.

Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network) will produce.

Could this be the “low-budget horror movie, set in the UK” we recently heard about? Maybe. To refresh, Garland came up with a new film while working on a TV series.

He said: “I wrote a low-budget horror movie, set in the UK. I don’t know if it’s unrealistic or not. Always at this particular moment, a film always feels unrealistic, but then somehow it works out. At some point with civil disobedience, you have to start smashing stuff up. So I was writing about the need to smash stuff upI thought, ‘So now what I’m writing is pointless.’ In a good way. I almost felt glad.”

Again, not sure if this is the same project. But it probably is. Anyhow, we’ll keep you updated. Stay tuned. In the meantime, remember that Garland recently helmed the FX/Hulu limited series Devs with Nick Offerman. Check it out if you haven’t yet!
