Women in Horror Film Festival Postponed Until 2022 Due to COVID-19
Last summer, we announced that the annual Women in Horror Film Festival was postponing its 2021 run from February until June. Today brings word, however, that the festival has been pushed back again, this time until 2022. Here’s the full statement from festival organizers:
We have been closely monitoring the data for COVID-19, nationally, globally and locally, here in Georgia. We are using that data to determine the safest way forward with hosting a live event. Our host theater, the historic Strand Marietta, has been closed to the public since March 2020. The fest has come to a point where we need to make the decision to go virtual or to postpone the event to a safer point in time that would allow us to host a live event.
Many festivals have had to make the difficult decision to cancel, create a virtual event online or to postpone their event. The magic that is at the heart of our festival, is the energy and sense of community, the electricity that surges when we are all together sharing our art and love of cinema with one another. This magic will be lost if we go virtual.
We have made the very difficult decision to take a knee for 2021 and postpone the event until March 3-5, 2022. With vaccinations increasing and all the changes occurring nationally, we feel this push will allow us to deliver the type of event that you deserve, the type of event for which we have become known. We understand how difficult and frustrating this is for many of you, as waiting is often the toughest part.
What does this mean for submitters?
All films and screenplays currently in competition, will remain in competition until the event in 2022. There is nothing you need to do. We will be open for submissions through the end of December 2021 exclusively through FilmFreeway. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at any time at wihfilmfest@gmail.com.
