Exclusive: Dread Talks the Journey to ALONE With Director Hyams and Writer/Producers Olsson & Åkesson
It’s no secret that the John Hymans-helmed survivalist thriller Alone was one this writer loved (review and top 10 of 2020 list). It’s rare for a film to really knock me on my ass, so to speak, so when this road trip from hell graced us with its presence last year, it caught us all off guard.
After championing the film for a while, I had the pleasure of speaking with Henrik JP Åkesson (producer of Alone) and Mattias Olsson (writer of Alone) regarding not only 2020’s exceptional pressure cooker, but the long journey of bringing the film to life. A journey that began with the Olsson-written and Åkesson-directed film Försvunnen (Gone), the 2011 film that was remade in the states as well… Alone.
A very thoroughly entertaining chat, Åkesson and Olsson speak on the challenges they faced with bringing the original film not fruition and the road it took to bring the story of a woman fighting for her life, to the states.
Synopsis:
Jules Willcox (Netflix’s Bloodline) stars in Alone as Jessica, a grief-stricken widow who flees the city in an attempt to cope with the loss of her husband. When Jessica is kidnapped by a mysterious man and locked in a cabin in the Pacific Northwest, she escapes into the wilderness and is pursued by her captor. The key cast includes Marc Menchaca (Ozark, The Outsider) and Anthony Heald (The Silence Of The Lambs).

Following that chat, we were able to hop on zoom to chat Alone with director John Hyams, regarding what brought him into the film and his desire to do something quite different than 2012’s action gem, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.

Alone is now available on DVD/Blu-ray and VOD via Magnet Releasing.
