JOHN CARPENTER Working on New Directing Projects

Halloween and The Thing director John Carpenter is a legend. Obviously. But will we ever see him helm another feature film?

Carpenter tells The Daily Beast: “You might! I’m working on a couple of things. But I’m not doing anything for a while until the world comes back and rights itself. It’s insane now. It’s nuts! I’m not going to go out there and get sick.”

He adds: “I mean, directing is just so unbelievably hard. It’s stressful, it’s physically difficult, it’s tough, and you have to be a certain kind of human being to love it—and I’m not certain I am. I love it but not in an ego way. Music is a lot more gratifying, in a way, because there it is. It’s right in front of you, and you don’t have to wait until it’s cut together and deal with an armory of people making movies.”

Carpenter’s last film The Ward back in 2010.

It told the tale of a young woman committed to a psychiatric unit where the angry spirit of a former patient haunts the girls being treated. They make a desperate escape attempt after the staff ignores their warnings about the spirit.

The film sports a 33% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: Lacking the hallmarks of his best work, The Ward proves to be a disappointingly mundane swan song for director John Carpenter.
