Director Doubts FREAKY Sequel Will Ever Happen Now
Blumhouse and director Christopher Landon’s body-swap bloodbath Freaky with Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton hits Blu-ray and DVD today. And while the film was, by all accounts, a success, it looks like Landon has no plans for a sequel.
Landon tells ComingSoon: “In terms of a sequel to Freaky, you know, I don’t think it’s ever gonna happen, because I honestly don’t know if the studio has an appetite for a sequel. I think they’re quite comfortable with it being a standalone movie, and to be honest, I am too, because we didn’t really have an idea for a sequel. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, this has to be the continuation of this story,’ whereas with the Happy Death Movies movies they kind of had a whole life after that, but you never know.”
Whatever, I’m up for a sequel. Bring it on, I say!

Freaky finds 17-year-old Millie Kessler (Newton) just trying to survive the bloodthirsty halls of high school. But when she becomes the target of an infamous serial killer (Vaughn). Then a mystical ancient dagger causes them wake up in each other’s bodies. Millie now has 24 hours before she’s trapped in the form of a middle-aged maniac forever. The only problem is she now looks like a towering psychopath who’s the target of a city-wide manhunt while The Butcher looks like her and has brought his appetite for carnage to Homecoming. With some help from her friends—ultra-woke Nyla (Celeste O’Connor), ultra-fabulous Joshua (Misha Osherovich) and her crush Booker (Uriah Shelton)—Millie races against the clock to reverse the curse while The Butcher discovers that having a female teen body is the perfect cover for a little Homecoming killing spree.
Blumhouse’s Freaky sports an 84% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: An entertaining slasher with a gender-bending, body-swapping twist, this horror-comedy juggles genres with Freaky fun results.
Christopher Landon directed Freaky. Jason Blum produced. It’s rated R for “strong bloody horror violence, sexual content, and language”. It co-stars Celeste O’Connor, Misha Osherovich, and Alan Ruck. It’s now available on Blu-ray and DVD.
