Stone (Natural Born Killers) writes and directs, based on Marc Brandel’s novel The Lizard’s Tail. Michael Caine stars along with and Andrea Marcovicci. Carlo Rambaldi (E.T.) and Stan Winston (Jurassic Park) created the special effects.
Stone’s first choice for the lead was Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy, Anaconda). But he turned down the offer. Stone also approached the likes of Dustin Hoffman (Hook, Straw Dogs) and Christopher Walken (True Romance, Sleepy Hollow).
In the end, Michael Caine (Dressed to Kill) joined the film. Caine wanted to make another horror film (to pay for a new garage) and agreed to star after talks with Stone. Caine and Stone have stayed friends throughout the years since making The Hand. Even though this flick marks the only time the two have worked together.
