Horror History: Happy Birthday, Director Zack Snyder!

On this day in horror history, Zack Snyder was born Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1966. Snyder is best known around here for helming the remake of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. He also directed the (in my opinion) awesome adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ masterpiece graphic novel Watchmen.

To the general public, Snyder is known for his action movies. These include 300 and Sucker Punch. And let’s not forget his work for the DC Universe with Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and (soon) Justice League.

He also directed that animated movie about all the badass owls, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. But I never saw that one. So moving on…

Up next for Snyder is the balls to the wall zombie action flick Army of the Dead. The MPAA slapped the movie with an R-rating for strong bloody violence, gore, and language throughout, some sexual content, and brief nudity/graphic nudity.

Sounds good to me!

Army of the Dead is said to be a spiritual successor to Dawn of the Dead and centers on a group of mercenaries as they plot a heist on a Las Vegas casino during a zombie outbreak. It stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win.
