If I were everyone’s favorite high class cannibal, I’d make sure of one thing for certain… actress Chelan Simmons would be at the top of my menu. If only for the breast meat! Did I just type that or was it my inner voice getting the better of me? In any event…
TVLine is reporting that Bryan Fuller, the man behind both NBC’s gruesome upcoming mid-season drama and the 2004 Fox cult hit “Wonderfalls,” announced Thursday via Twitter that Chelan Simmons would bring her chirpy “falls” character — Gretchen Speck-Horowitz — to his new project.
“THRILLED to be working again with @ChelanLSimmons and TICKLED her character is crossing over to #Hannibal,” the writer and executive producer tweeted, along with a photo of Simmons. “Wonderfalls” fans will remember Simmons’ alter ego, who was president of her high school class and a torment to protagonist Jaye (played by Caroline Dhavernas), as the woman who called herself “a Christmas and Easter Jew.” As the result of a talking rooster encouraging Jaye to “destroy her” (long story), Gretchen decided to end her marriage to a man she didn’t love.
Mads Mikkelsen will play the psychiatrist-turned-serial killer in the 13-episode dramatic take from “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller. Caroline Dhavernas also stars as Dr. Alana “Al” Bloom, a psychiatric protege of Hannibal Lecter who teaches psychology at Georgetown University and is consulting with the FBI on criminal profiling when she introduces her mentor to Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford. Lara Jean Chorostecki plays Freddie Lounds, a sleazy tabloid reporter, and Hugh Dancy plays everyone’s favorite criminal profiler, Will Graham.
Scott Thompson (“The Kids in the Hall”), Hettienne Park (Young Adult) and Aaron Abrams (L.A. Complex) also star.
