Serkis directs from a screenplay written by Kelly Marcel based on the character created by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker produce. Columbia unleashes it on September 17, 2021.
The original film followed journalist Eddie Brock trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake’s experiments, Eddie merges with the alien Venom, leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark, and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.
It sports a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: Venom’s first standalone movie turns out to be like the comics character in all the wrong ways – chaotic, noisy, and in desperate need of a stronger attachment to Spider-Man
