Horror History: Sam Raimi’s DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Opens in One Year
Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now filming. And next year – on this day in horror history – the film will finally hit a theater near you.
Legendary Danny Elfman (Edward Scissorhands) will compose the score for Raimi’s sequel. Makes sense as they are frequent collaborators (Darkman, Spider-Man 1 & 2, Oz the Great and Powerful). Michael Giacchino scored the first film.

The last we heard on the sequel, Xochitl Gomez (Baby-Sitters Club) joined Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the film.
Recently, Bruce Campbell confirmed his cameo. Kinda. He posted a pic of London, tweeting: “Boy, it was a blast, working in a certain city, with a certain director on a certain movie with a certain actor – it sure was!“ Check out his tweet HERE.
Possibly better yet, Elizabeth Olsen teases the sequel sports some good old fashion Sam Raimi style. She says: “[Sam Raimi is] an incredible person to work with. He’s just such a unique human and I just think it’s fun getting to work with someone with such specific goals. And I love his use of camera and it’s definitely a use of camera that I’m not used to at all. So I guess that might answer your question!“
Sinister director Scott Derrickson left the production over creative differences. Raimi then took over. Derickson remains as an executive producer. The film’s set to start shooting once Cumberbatch finishes playing Strange in Spider-Man 3.
The original film told the tale of Dr. Stephen Strange’s whose life changes after a car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he looks for healing, and hope, in a mysterious enclave. There he quickly learns it’s at the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying reality. Before long, Strange must choose between his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.
Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness was originally going to hit on May 7th, 2021. But will now (hopefully) land in theaters on March 25th, 2022.
