Horror History: Happy Birthday to My MIRRORS Crush, AMY SMART!

On this day in horror history, Amy Smart was born in LA in 1976. While Smart might not be a name that screams “horror” she’s in more classics than you remember. These include Campfire Tales, Starship Troopers, Strangeland, Seventh Moon, Dead Awake, Flight 7500, Hangman, Patient Seven, The Keeping Hour, and Mirrors.

I first remember seeing Smart in my favorite movie from high school, Varsity Blues. She also starred in flicks such as The Town, Crank, and Crank: High Voltage. Plus comedies like Road Trip, Rat Race, Starsky & Hutch, and Just Friends.

On top of all that, Smart has also been a force on the small screen. Her notable TV roles include shows such as Felicity, Scrubs, Robot Chicken, Shameless, Justified, Maron, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, MacGyver, and most-recently Stargirl.

Smart’s best flick just might be The Butterfly Effect.

Smart starred in the flick opposite Ashton Kutcher as a college student afflicted with headaches so painful he frequently blacks out. While unconscious, Kutcher is able to travel back in time to difficult moments in his childhood. He can also alter the past for friends, like Smart, whose father (Eric Stoltz) molested her. But changing the past drastically alters the present. And Kutcher finds himself in nightmarish alternate realities, including one where he’s locked away in prison.

Rated R for violence, sexual content, language, and brief drug use, the film sports a 33% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: The premise is intriguing, but it’s placed in the service of an overwrought and tasteless thriller.

Ket tells Kim a movie that’s been on their list for a while and, to be clear, it does NOT star Brienne of Tarth.
