With the Screamfest L.A. Film Festival running October 12th thru the 20th, we chatted this week with director Marcus Dunstan, whose film The Collection kicks the whole thing off this Friday at 7:30pm.

We also scored a couple of behind-the-scenes photos in the process, as well as word on Rise. Read on!

Written by Dunstan and long-time collaborator Patrick Melton, The Collection serves as a high-octane sequel to their 2009 horror feature The Collector, and stars the returning Josh Stewart as ‘Arkin,’ Lee Tergesen, Christopher McDonald, Johnny Yong Bosch, Emma Fitzpatrick, Shannon Kane, Tim Griffin, William Peltz, Eaddy Mays, Michael Nardelli, Justin Mortelliti, Michael H. Cole, Arloa Reston and Courtney Lauren Cumming.
“We can’t wait to unleash The Collection upon Screamfest this Friday night!,” Dunstan told us, whose previous writing credits with Melton include the Feast series and the bulk of the Saw film franchise.

“I can’t imagine a better crowd to traumatize!” he continued “We’ll be there in full force to lock the doors, kill the lights and watch the red spray down! The next morning we’re off to New York for a Comic Con presentation on Sunday afternoon! Happy Halloween, indeed!”

As for what’s next on the horrific duo’s plate, “Patrick and I just turned in the first draft of Rise to Warner Bros and we’re excited as hell to embark on the next phase of the sci-fi action film for director David Karlak,” Dunstan said of the script they penned for the man who served as the VFX supervisor on The Collector, and who is slated to direct Rise. “Karlak has a vision for the future that is as tense as it is heart-wrenching, and it has been a blast to work with an old friend.”

The Collection Synopsis:
When Elena’s (Emma Fitzpatrick) friends take her to a secret party at an undisclosed location, she never imagined she would become the latest victim of The Collector, a psychopathic killer. The Collector kidnaps and transports her to an abandoned hotel he’s transformed into his own private maze of torture and death. Upon learning of his daughter’s disappearance, Elena’s wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a group of mercenaries to retrieve her from the vicious grips of The Collector. These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through thegruesome labyrinth. Now, Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena. “The Collection,” directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, is a suspense horror film with nonstop thrills at every turn, starring Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Fitzpatrick(The Social Network), and Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream).
