How You Can Help the “Weird Satanist Guy” Make a Horror Comedy Feature Film

Sometime around 2012, a guy began randomly appearing at conventions and other events dressed in what can only be described as nineties Hot Topic couture. When he appeared at the public unveiling of the Satanic Temple’s Baphomet statue in Detroit in 2015, the video of his hilarious exchange with reporters went viral, and he became known as “the weird Satanist guy.” If you’ve been in a coma for the past several years and have no idea what I’m talking about, check out the video below, where the weird Satanist guy, Onyx, says to Satan himself, “Notice me, Senpai!”

Onyx, the weird Satanist guy, is actually a character created by filmmaker/podcaster Andrew Bowser and has been embraced by weirdos around the world, including myself. Last year, I had the opportunity to see Bowser’s short horror film, Little Willy, at the Chattanooga Film Festival and I loved it. You can’t begin to imagine my surprise when I realized that the incredibly talented filmmaker was also the weird Satanist guy. My mind was blown. I highly recommend checking out the short horror comedy Little Willy below, which features some very cool celebrity cameos.

Bowser is currently working on a horror comedy feature film about weird Satanist guy called Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project. They are so close to reaching their goal, so please consider supporting indie film and joining the campaign here.

The synopsis for Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls is as follows:

Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls follows fledgling Satanist Marcus J. Trillbury (Onyx) as he attends a once-in-a-lifetime ritual at his idol BARTOK THE GREAT’S dark mansion. Once there, Marcus meets a group of other worshippers. As the group is led by Bartok and his assistant Farrah in a series of rituals meant to “better them,” it becomes clear that their intentions are more nefarious. As his new friends are losing the battle to keep their souls, a question of great destiny looms over Onyx’s head: is he doomed to be a nobody or is he the only one who can defeat Bartok and save his friends from damnation?

Bowser recently organized a script reading for Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls with genre favorites Rachel Ancheril (Star Trek: Discovery), Olivia Taylor Dudley (The Magicians, Dude Bro Party Massacre III), Jayma Mays (Glee), Xander Barkley (The Walking Dead), Jason Marsden (Hocus Pocus, Young Justice), and many more. You can check out the script reading here.

Scarred For Life
Episode 266: Opus Writer/Director Mark Anthony Green and Michael Jackson's Thriller (1983)
This week we were unbelievably excited to chat with writer and director Mark Anthony Green! We talk about his feature film debut Opus, working with musical icons The-Dream and Nile Rodgers, Ayo Edebiri's star power and the eccentricities (and graciousness) of John Malkovich. Mark Anthony shares a fantastic story of John on set and so much more before we dig a bit into his horror history and find out why Michael Jackson's Thriller music video scared him as a kid. A shorter episode this week, but easily one of our favorite conversations in a long while. Don't miss it. And go see Opus in theaters!Follow Mary Beth, Terry and the Podcast on Bluesky.
