Walter earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress and two SAG nominations for her performance as Lucille Bluth in Arrested Development.
She also voiced Malory Archer on FXX’s animated series Archer. And Fran Sinclair on Jim Henson’s cult classic ABC/TGIF sitcom Dinosaurs. Walter is survived by daughter Brooke Bowman, who is SVP Drama Programming at Fox Entertainment.
Bowman said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica. A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on screen and off. While her legacy will live on through her body of work, she will also be remembered by many for her wit, class and overall joie de vivre.”
The family asked for donations to Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
Walter starred in Play Misty for Me as the increasingly psychotic anonymous hookup of Clint Eastwood. Eastwood’s popular radio show host becomes restless with his girlfriend and impulsively, goes out and sleeps with Walter.
After the fact, he finds out she was an obsessive fan. One who called in repeatedly to request he play the song “Misty.” Now getting rid of her will be no easy feat.
The film sports an 84% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: A coolly calculating psychological thriller. It manages to scare the audience even if it is just using textbook thrills
