Also known as House of Evil, it centers on seven sorority sisters who play a prank that goes horribly wrong. Ending up with a dead body, they panic and try to hide it. But someone witnessed the crime and begins to murder them, one by one.
Eileen Davidson and Kathryn McNeil star along with Janis Ward, Robin Meloy, Harley Jane Kozak, Jodi Draigie, Ellen Dorsher, and Lois Kelso Hunt as Mrs. Slater.
Rosman wrote the script in 1980 (then titled Seven Sisters) partly inspired by Henri-Georges Clouzot’s thriller Les Diaboliques. The film ultimately grossed $10.6M.
The starting budget was $125K but ended up at about $300K. The production had already gone over budget during preproduction and it was a cousin of director Mark Rosman who came up with enough funding to continue shooting.
A remake, dubbed Sorority Row, hit back in 2009. Stewart Hendler directed the new version which starred Briana Evigan, Rumer Willis, and Carrie Fisher.
MVD’s Rewind Collection’s The House on Sorority Row Blu-ray hits July 6th.
