GODZILLA VS KONG Screenwriter Now Explains Kong’s Battle-Axe
One of the only reasons Kong is able to go toe-to-toe with Godzilla in Godzilla vs Kong (now in theaters and streaming on HBO Max) is that he had an advantage: A powerful battle-axe of unknown origins.

This isn’t to suggest the weapon’s origins can’t be inferred. It looks like a tool made by one of Kong’s ancestors out of one of Godzilla’s dorsal scales, right? In a recent interview with our friends at Collider, Godzilla vs Kong screenwriter Max Borenstein confirms as much.
“To me it’s like Godzilla’s scales have this conductive, radioactive quality and the primate Kongs had a kind of evolved civilization of sorts, as primates might, and simple tools and had used the spine of a Godzilla creature to create it. Presumably there are more like it, but it feels like the iconic scepter of the King.”
Whether or not we learn more about Kong’s lineage and a society that seems to have thrived in Hollow Earth remains to be seen. There’s been no decision at this time regarding a fifth entry in Legendary’s MonterVerse. We’ll keep you posted as details emerge. In the meantime, check out the trailer and synopsis for Godzilla vs Kong below.
