Artist Now Uses Coat Hangers to Recreate the Crucifixion
It’s Easter – but we’re still horror fans. So it seemed like the perfect occasion to look back at the artwork of David Mach, specifically his “Golgotha” installation. The artist used coat hangers to recreate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ – with terrifying results.
I think this crucifixion will instantly reminded all horror fans of Hellraiser!
“Golgotha” was first displayed in 2011; more recently in 2016, it was displayed at Chester Cathedral in England, a church from the 14th century.
Check out some video and images below.
“’Golgotha’ is my largest coat hanger piece to date,” Mach told Hi-Fructose at the time of his 2016 crucifixion installation. “I wanted this sculpture to be dramatic. It is an epic, violent scene. So the sculpture needed to have as much pathos as possible. I extruded the coat hanger hooks outward to reflect that and to me they seem to capture the agony of the moment.”
