New Ari Aster A24 Movie With Joaquin Phoenix Now Shoots in June

Back in February, we passed along word that Ari Aster is re-teaming with A24 for his next project, Disappointment Blvd with Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix! And today, Discussing Film reports that the movie will kick off filming in Canada on June 28th.

Details are under wraps.

But that said, we do know that once again, Ari Aster (Heredity, Midsommar) will write and direct. However, we’re not even sure if the film will be a horror movie.

The plot is described as ‘an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time. It’s also unclear if the film will be based on an actual person or a fictional character. But we’ll keep up to date on the film as it progresses. And pass along further updates as we hear them. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, remember that Ari Aster’s Hereditary begins when the matriarch of the Graham family passes away. Now her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry.

Rated R for horror violence, disturbing images, language, drug use, and brief graphic nudity, the film sports an 89% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus: Hereditary uses its classic setup as the framework for a harrowing, uncommonly unsettling horror film whose cold touch lingers long beyond the closing credits.

Then Aster’s follow-up Midsommar followed a couple to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival. But the idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a cult.

Rated R for disturbing ritualistic violence and grisly images, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and language, the film sports an 83% over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus: Ambitious, impressively crafted, and above all unsettling, Midsommar proves Ari Aster is a horror auteur to be reckoned with.

Again, Disappointment Blvd with Joaquin Phoenix begins filming on June 28.
