Rob Zombie’s New THE MUNSTERS Will Be His Biggest Movie – By Far!

Last month, we heard writer-director Rob Zombie would take on an all-new The Munsters movie. Today we’re hearing it will begin filming next month in Budapest.

And it will be Zombie’s biggest movie to date – by far!

Bloody Disgusting reports that the budget is reportedly in the $30M-$40M range.

For the record, Zombie’s previous films were (at best) half that budget. His two Halloween movies topped out at $15M a piece. Then there was House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, both budgeted at $7M. Then The Lords of Salem and 31 at $1.5M And finally, Three From Hell cost – checks notes – go figure, $3M.

So, again, this will be Zombie’s biggest movie. By at least double. About time. But I think this might mean – as we might have suspected – this could also be Zombie’s first PG-13 (or gasp PG) movie. That’s would be fucking weird. I guess we’ll see soon…

Oh, and while we’re here, BD also reports that The Munsters is going to be a Peacock original/exclusive that will open day-and-date in theaters via Universal Pictures.

Murphy’s Multiverse reports that Sheri Moon Zombie has reportedly been cast as Lily Munster, while Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem, 3 from Hell) will play Herman. Daniel Roebuck and Richard Brake have also been cast in undisclosed roles along with Jorge Garcia (Lost) and Cassandra Peterson (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark).

The original Munsters featured Fred Gwynne as Herman, Yvonne De Carlo as Lily, Al Lewis as Grandpa, Butch Patrick as Eddie, and Pat Priest and Beverly Owen as Marilyn. Mel Blanc and Bob Hastings voiced The Raven. NBC tried to revive it back in 2012 with Bryan Fuller’s Mockingbird Lane with Jerry O’Connell and Portia de Rossi. But it never happened. We’ll let you know if we hear more on Zombie’s Munsters.

Rob Zombie’s The Munsters will film next month in Budapest. In the meantime, remember that the original series is streaming now on – you guessed it – Peacock.
