Disney’s HAUNTED MANSION Snags New Director
Disney’s Haunted Mansion movie has snagged Bad Hair director Justin Simien. Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters: Answer the Call) penned the most recent draft.
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin ) are producing the film which will (obviously) ignore everything about director Rob Minkoff’s 2003 version with Eddie Murphy.
All the same, that version told the tale of a workaholic real estate agent played by Murphy who is accused by his wife of neglecting his son and daughter, so he takes the family on a vacation. Along the way, they stop at a sinister mansion he’s been asked to sell, only to discover it’s – you guessed it – haunted.

Nick Reynolds exec producing.
Bad Hair takes place in 1989. It follows an ambitious young woman gets a weave in order to succeed in the image-obsessed world of music television. However, her flourishing career may come at a great cost. Then she realizes that her new hair may have a mind of its own.
The film sports a 62% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus: Bad Hair’s unwieldy ambitions are easy to respect. Even if the film’s tonal jumble and uneven execution are impossible to ignore.
I’m sure all of you remember a time when it seemed clear that Hellboy and The Devil’s Backbone director Guillermo del Toro would be writing and producing the Disney reboot. I’m not sure what happened there. Guess the man was just too busy on other projects. Like this upcoming remake of the thriller Nightmare Alley with Bradley Cooper. That’s too damn bad.
