It was, obviously, a sequel to director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland’s 28 Days Later with Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, and Brendan Gleeson.

Like its predecessor, the film received positive reviews from critics, with many praising the performances, atmosphere, and screenplay. It grossed $64 million against a $15 million budget.

The sequel is set six months after the original epidemic. The rage virus has all but annihilated the British Isles. Nevertheless, the U.S. Army declares the danger past, and American soldiers arrive to restore order and begin reconstruction. Refugees return to British soil, but one of them carries a deadly secret. The virus is not gone and is even more dangerous than before.

Rated R for strong violence and gore, language and some sexuality/nudity. It sports a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: While 28 Weeks Later lacks the humanism that made 28 Days Later a classic, it’s made up with fantastic atmosphere and punchy direction.
