Escape Room 2 Is Rated PG-13 for Terror/Peril and More

Sony’s Escape Room 2 was set to hit on April 17, 2020. Then August 14, 2020. December 30, 2020. January 1, 2021. Then back to December 30th. Then January 7, 2022. Now 2 Escape 2 Room hits July 16, 2021. Whatever at this point.

It’s rated PG-13 for for violence, terror/peril and strong language.

The sequel stars Taylor Russell and Logan Miller with franchise newcomers Holland Roden (Channel Zero), Indya Moore (Pose), Thomas Cocquerel (The 100), Carlito Olivero (Step Up: High Water), and Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan).

That’s a good cast. Maybe they’ll make this new entry worth watching. I’m kidding.

Directed by Adam Robitel, the original centered on six strangers who travel to a mysterious building to experience the escape room — a game where players compete to solve a series of puzzles to win $10,000. What starts out as innocent fun soon turns into a living nightmare as the four men and two women discover each room is an elaborate trap that’s part of a sadistic game of life or death.

It sports a 50% over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Escape Room fails to unlock much of the potential in its premise, but what’s left is still tense and thrilling enough to offer a passing diversion for suspense fans.

Escape Room 2 will evidently hit theaters on July 16, 2021. For now.
