My Central Jersey reports filming started on Monday and is expected to continue through the end of June. The production’s location manager said the crew will be building a 25-foot by 30-foot barn on one of the two properties involved.
The barn will be burned. But most of the fire scenes will be created in the post-production process. The film will have a crew of about 75 and will also contain personnel for COVID-19 safety. Plus, a “very small cast,” with just the mother and a set of 12-year-old twins, and a few other actors.

Matt Sobel (Take Me To The River) directs the remake from a script by Kyle Warren.
Sobel says: “My favorite films are those that invite the audience to step inside their protagonist’s journey. In our re-imagining fear of abandonment — and the dreadful realization that those close to us may not be who they seem — create an immersive nightmare, with visceral sensations front and center. I can’t wait to create this heart-stopping story with Amazon and the peerless Naomi Watts.“
Watts will also executive produce with the original film’s directors Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz. David Kaplan, Joshua Astrachan, Valery Guibal, and also Nicolas Brigaud-Robert are producing. Amazon is financing and also releasing worldwide.
Goodnight Mommy snagged an R-rating for disturbing violent content and some nudity. It told the tale of two creepy-ass twin boys who welcome their creepy-ass mother home after reconstructive surgery. But with creepy-ass her face wrapped in bandages, and her demeanor distant, they grow suspicious of her identity.
It’s a creep-ass movie.
The film sports an 85% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: Dark, violent, and drenched in dread, Goodnight Mommy is perfect for extreme horror enthusiasts — or filmgoers who prefer to watch between splayed fingers.
Are you up for watching another version of Goodnight Mommy? Do we all really need to relive the flick – but without subtitles? Whatever. With Naomi Watts attached I’m down. I’d even watch (yet another) remake of Psycho, if she played … Norman Bates!
