THE DJINN Directors Now Discuss Their Dark Fairy Tale and Lifelong Friendship [Video]
Directors David Charbonier and Justin Powell are about to burst onto the horror scene this summer. Their second feature The Djinn debuts in theaters and VOD this month. Their first outing The Boy Behind the Door premieres on Shudder in July. If you were fortunate enough to catch The Boy Behind the Door at Fantastic Fest or AFI Fest, you should be looking forward to what these two lifelong friends and dedicated horror fans have conjured up with The Djinn.

Interestingly, Powell and Charbonier actually shot The Djinn before The Boy Behind the Door. That explains why True Blood icon Kristen Bauer van Straten doesn’t appear in some form in The Djinn after starring in their “first” film. If it were up to them, they would cast Kristen and kid actor Ezra Dewey in everything they do. In our video interview below, we dive into the Djinn legend and the Book of Shadows that appears in the film, how their lifelong friendship helped keep things positive on set, and if they’re planning to explore other teased creatures from the shadow realm in future projects tied to The Djinn universe.
Synopsis: The Djinn follows a mute twelve-year-old, Dylan Jacobs. He discovers a mysterious book of spells inside his new apartment. He is grieving the loss of his mother, and feeling isolated from everyone except for his father. So Dylan performs a ritual that promises to deliver his heart’s desire: to have a voice. But he soon discovers that every gift has a toll when a sinister djinn arrives to collect his soul. Now trapped in his new home with nowhere to hide. Dylan must find a way to survive until the stroke of midnight or pay the ultimate price.
