Netflix is Now Working on a New ULTRAMAN Animated Feature Film

We’re just getting word that one of Japan’s premiere superheroes, Ultraman, is getting a new animated feature film over at Netflix! While there is an international following for the silver and red savior, Ultraman hasn’t ever hit hard in America. With the recent success of Godzilla vs Kong, however, along with their well-received Pacific Rim spinoff (Pacific Rim: The Black), it seems US audiences are also ready to devour anything featuring Kaijus!

Variety got the exclusive reporting:

The streamer is partnering with Tsuburaya Productions to develop Ultraman as a CG-animated feature film aimed at bringing a new, wider audience to the beloved silver-suited character.

Shannon Tindle (Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings) will direct from a script co-written by Marc Haimes. John Aoshima will co-direct.

While animated, Variety also reports that the film will not be strictly anime. It will also diverge from the established Japanese mythology of Ultraman (as it is currently being continued in an ongoing animated series, also on Netflix).
