The images show various characters from the film such as Batman, Catwoman, James Gordon, and Harvey Dent before he became Two-Face. The trailer for the first installment was also recently released online, and it looks like it could well be the best animated superhero movie of 2021.
An adaptation of the seminal comic series by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale, The Long Halloween focuses on Batman’s investigation of a serial killer dubbed Holiday, since they only kill on holidays. Those of you who have read the series will be aware that Holiday’s identity was never revealed, although Loeb has claimed there were enough clues in the book for readers to figure it out. So, while we’ll probably never know for certain who the killer actually was, The Long Halloween is still widely considered to be one of the greatest Batman comics of all time, so a film adaptation is long overdue.
Batman is voiced by Jensen Ackles in the two-part adaptation. Troy Baker provides the voice of the Joker, a role he has already played multiple times in the past. Other cast members include Amy Landecker, Jack Quaid, Julie Nathanson, Josh Duhamel, Fred Tatasciore, Billy Burke, and Titus Welliver. Actress Naya Rivera, who sadly died last year, voices Catwoman, and this will be her final performance.

Directed by Chris Palmer, who also helmed the animated film Superman: Man of Tomorrow and episodes of Voltron: Legendary Defender, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One will be released on Blu-ray and VOD platforms on June 22. Part One received a PG-13 rating from the MPAA. But Part Two, which will be available later in the year, has officially been rated R. So the first entry will probably be slightly tame by comparison. But we can expect more violence from the second installment.
Either way, special features included on the Blu-ray for Part One will include a new DC Showcase short film called The Losers, and two episodes of Batman: The Animated Series. So, fans will definitely want to add it to their collection when it arrives in stores next month.
