Horror History: Happy Birthday, Cillian Murphy!
On this day in horror history, Cillian Murphy was born Cork, Ireland in 1976.
He is best known for his role as Dr. Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. He returned to the role for quick cameos in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
That or the hit series, Peaky Blinders. Or his role in Nolan’s Inception. Maybe movies such as The Wind That Shakes the Barley, and Breakfast on Pluto.
But we genre fans know him for roles in films such as Wes Craven’s Red Eye, and Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later and Sunshine.
Up next is a lead role in writer-director John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II.
28 Days Later synopsis:
A group of misguided animal rights activists free a caged chimp infected with the “Rage” virus from a medical research lab. When London bike courier Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma a month after, he finds his city all but deserted. On the run from the zombie-like victims of the Rage, Jim stumbles upon a group of survivors, including Selena (Naomie Harris) and cab driver Frank (Brendan Gleeson), and joins them on a perilous journey to what he hopes will be safety.
The film sports a 87% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus: Kinetically directed by Danny Boyle, 28 Days Later is both a terrifying zombie movie and a sharp political allegory.
