Plot details are under wraps, but sources say the film is in the vein of Alex Garland’s previous sci-fi films. So I guess it makes sense that Garland also penned the script.
Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network) will produce.
Could this be the “low-budget horror movie, set in the UK” we heard about? Maybe. To refresh, Alex Garland came up with a new film while working on a TV series.
He said: “I wrote a low-budget horror movie, set in the UK. I don’t know if it’s unrealistic or not. Always at this particular moment, a film always feels unrealistic, but then somehow it works out. At some point with civil disobedience, you have to start smashing stuff up. So I was writing about the need to smash stuff up. I thought, ‘So now what I’m writing is pointless.’ In a good way. I almost felt glad.”
Again, not sure if this is the same project. But it probably is. Anyhow, we’ll keep you updated. Stay tuned. In the meantime, remember that Alex Garland recently helmed the FX/Hulu limited series Devs with Nick Offerman. Check it out if you haven’t yet!
