Stephen King’s New Series LISEY’S STORY: First Reactions Are Divided

Apple’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story will make its global debut exclusively on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 4th, 2021. And today we have the first reactions.

My take on LISEY’S STORY is that it is too bleak and dark for me. I quit after three episodes. The score is memorable and the production is top-notch. But there are too many things going on and nothing advanced after three hours, only the bad vibes, so I had to let it go.

The embargo's up, so I can tell you I absolutely adore LISEY'S STORY. Julianne Moore is doing amazing work even by her standards, Pablo Larrain directs the hell out of it, and King gets to keep one of his weirdest novels weird on the screen. It's a beautiful, strange trip.

The highly-anticipated limited series is based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King. King also adapted and penned the series himself.

It features a star-studded cast led by Academy Award-winner Julianne Moore and also Academy Award-nominee Clive Owen. The eight-episode Apple Original series will premiere with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday.

Lisey’s Story is a deeply personal and also pensive thriller. It follows Lisey (Julianne Moore) two years after the death of her husband, famous novelist Scott (Clive Owen). A series of unsettling events causes Lisey to face memories of her marriage to Scott. Memories she has deliberately blocked out of her mind. Joan Allen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dane DeHaan, Ron Cephas Jones, and Sung Kang also star alongside Moore and Owen.

Directed by Pablo Larraín, Lisey’s Story hails from J. J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. In a rare step, every episode of the series was personally written by Stephen King. King, Moore, and Larraín executive produce alongside Abrams, Ben Stephenson, and Juan de Dios Larraín.
