Mick Garris Shares Harrowing Heart Attack Story with Kevin Smith [Exclusive]

Garris never spoke about this before today’s episode, but back in January of this year, he had a heart attack. And not just any heart attack. The same kind Kevin Smith had. A heart attack called The Windowmaker – with a 12% survival rate.

Mick reveals: “I had 100% blockage as well. Now we have very different lifestyles. For the last 15 years to 20 years, I’ve been vegetarian then 10 years as a vegan. I’ve never smoked a cigarette, I’ve never had an alcoholic beverage, and despite my rock and roll past, never did recreational drugs. It’s genetics. Goddamn parents.

Smith tells Garris: “They gave you better odds, Mick. My doctor was like, ‘Before I dive in, I just got to let you know, you’re a comic book guy, you’ll like this. He goes, ‘They got a name for this heart attack. It’s called The Windowmaker.’ And I’m like, ‘Why?’ As if you need to ask. And he says, ‘In 80% of the cases of 100% occlusion – which is what I had, full blockage – the patent always dies.’

That’s just a taste of their harrowing conversation.

The whole thing is truly a must-listen. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I can’t – or better yet don’t want to – imagine a world without Mick Garris and Kevin Smith. So go ahead and give the episode a listen. No hyperbole, it just might save your life, guys. Plus, let’s not forget, it’s also laugh-out-loud funny in parts. God bless, Garris and Smith.
