13-year-old Ryan Ross (Cameron Mann) did the dirty deed.

So will there be a second season?

Creator Brad Ingelsby tells EW: “I had planned it as one. I don’t know if I was able to crack a version that I could make great. I would only want to go back to Mare of Easttown if I had a story I felt would be great and that we could give audiences what they want. So, I don’t have anything. Now, if I did get struck by lightning or something and I get this great idea, then I would definitely give it a shot. Because listen, I love Mare. I love her, and I love the people in this town so much that if I felt I could give them a great season or a great second story, then I would absolutely go for it. Who knows if that will happen though.

Synopsis:
In the suburbs of Philadelphia, a detective named Mare Sheehan investigates the recent murder of a teenage mother while trying to keep her own life from falling apart. Mare is a local hero, having been the star of a high-school basketball championship game 25 years ago. She has also been unable to solve the case of another missing young girl for a year, leading many in the community to doubt her detective skills. Her personal troubles include a divorce, a son lost to suicide, and an ex-heroin addict daughter-in-law battling for custody of Mare’s grandson.

The HBO original limited series currently sports a killer 92% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus: Grounded by a career-best Kate Winslet, Mare of Easttown’s ambitions at times exceed its reach, but its central mystery is supported by such strong sense of place and character it hardly matters.
